Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course

This course is for those working on ambulance vehicles which respond to emergencies both medical and trauma. It is also an ideal course for other emergency services such as police, fire, and coastguard,  as well as non-emergency services such as volunteer staff for events, private ambulance services, close protection personnel, nurses and army medics who work in a pre-hospital environment.  

Duration – 140 hours home study, 40 hours classroom study.

140 hours home study on the following subjects:

  • Cardiovascular System

  • Digestive System

  • Nervous System

  • Musculoskeletal System

  • Oxygen & Entonox Therapy

40 hours classroom study on the following subjects:

  • Record Keeping & Accountability

  • Completing Patient Records

  • CPR

  • CPR in a Moving Ambulance

  • Jaw Thrust

  • Oro-Pharyngeal Airways

  • Bag, Valve Mask Resuscitation

  • AED/CVA/TIA

  • Aspiration

  • Cardiac Emergencies

  • Chest Trauma / Abdominal Trauma

  • Carry Chair

  • Ambulance Trolley

  • Banana Boards

  • Stretcher Positioning

  • Fracture Management

  • Spinal Immobilization/

  • Long Spinal Board

  • KED

  • Helmet Removal

  • Medical Emergencies

  • Diabetes

  • Asthma

  • Bronchitis

  • Emphysema

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Drug Overdose

  • Epilepsy

You will also learn how to record and measure:

  • Pulse

  • Respirations

  • Blood Pressure

  • SPO2

  • BM

  • Peak Flow

  • 3 Lead ECG

You will also learn the following medications:

  • Oxygen

  • Epi-Pen
